Cessna Announces Private Aircraft Operator Luxaviation As First European Customer For Citation M2 Gen2
Cessna parent company Textron Aviation has announced that its longtime customer Luxaviation will be the first in Europe to receive a Cessna Citation M2 Gen2 light twinjet. Based in Luxembourg, Luxaviation is one of the world’s largest private aircraft operators, providing jet and helicopter charter services, jet management services, VIP passenger terminals, and more. Textron announced the deal at the 2022 European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE), which wrapped up 25 May in Geneva.
Textron expects the seven-passenger, single-pilot-certified M2 Gen2 to receive European Aviation Safety Agency type certification soon, and to complete its delivery to Luxaviation shortly thereafter. The jet received U.S. Federal Aviation Administration type certification in April, followed quickly by the first delivery to a U.S. customer.
A Worthy Successor
The M2 Gen2 is an update to the Citation M2, which was introduced in 2013. Cessna unveiled the M2 Gen2 in 2021, touting its enhanced cabin lighting, upgraded cabin technology, and Garmin G3000 flight deck with touch-controlled avionics. Textron says Luxaviation is also adding a 10-passenger Citation CJ4 Gen2 to its European fleet. Luxaviation manages and charters more than 50 Textron Aviation aircraft in total.
“The addition of this new Cessna Citation M2 Gen2 will provide access to a new client base out of our Paris base where we offer FBO, aircraft charter, and management,” says Luxaviation France Managing Director Karol Guérémy. “The Citation M2 Gen2 will be able to cover a large part of Western Europe, with its ability to land in restricted destinations like London City or Cannes.”
The Citation M2 Gen2
The M2 Gen2 can operate at airports with runways as short as 978 metres (3,208 feet). It has a maximum flight range of 1,550 nautical miles (2,870 kilometres) and a maximum cruise speed of 404 KTAS. Two Williams FJ44-1AP-21 engines are built into its aluminium airframe, each of which generates 1,965 pounds-force (8.74 kilonewtons) of thrust. The interior includes 7.6 centimetres (3 inches) of additional legroom in the cockpit for the co-pilot. Customers can decorate the interior in Cashmere, Driftwood, Ebony, and Mist Collection styles. Each cabin seat provides wireless charging and a USB port. A Fresh Air System ushers air in from outside through the engines, compresses and heats it to kill pathogens and germs, and cools and delivers it to the cabin.
