Diamond Aircraft Delivers Two DA40 NG Aircraft To European Flight Academy In Germany
Austrian aircraft manufacturer Diamond Aircraft recently delivered two DA40 NG single-engine piston planes from its DA40 Series to European Flight Academy (EFA), a flight training facility owned by Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT). The aircraft are based at the Rostock-Laage Airport in Germany, where they’ve joined 10 other trainers, including Diamond DA42 twin pistons. The facility, which specialises in practical training, is one of LAT’s 10 training locations.
“With the new deliveries, we expand our fleet of state-of-the-art training aircraft, and improve training quality even more,” says LAT Pilot Academy Managing Director Matthias Lehmann.
The Diamond Approach To Flight Training
Diamond says by building training aircraft, Austro Engine power plants, and state-of-the-art Diamond Flight Simulators, it’s able to serve as a sole-source supplier to customers, providing them one point of contact. Other training craft in Diamond’s product lineup include the DA42 piston twin, the DA20 piston single series, and the DART aerobatic trainer.
The DA40 series also includes the DA40 Tundra Star, which specialises in backcountry flying, and the DA40 XLT multiuse model. DA40-series planes are variously available with an Austro Engine 168-Horsepower (123.5-kilowatt) turbocharged jet fuel engine or a Lycoming IO360M1A AVGAS engine. They are equipped with a three-blade MT hydraulic constant-speed propeller and Garmin’s G1000 NXi flight deck.
The DA40 NG
The DA40 NG is available with such features as a choice of premium leather interiors, adjustable pilot seatbacks and lumbar support, electrically adjustable rudder pedals, and electric air conditioning. The plane includes an Austro Engine AE 300 turbocharged common-rail injected 2.0-litre diesel engine with electronic engine control unit (EECU) single-lever control system. It can run on Jet A-1, Jet A, TS-1, RT, No. 3 Jet Fuel, and JP-8 fuel.
The plane has a maximum operating altitude of 5,000 metres (16,400 feet), and a maximum range of 940 nautical miles (1,741 kilometres) at 60% power with an auxiliary tank. It has a maximum speed of 285 km/h (177.1 mph) at 4,267 metres (14,000 ft), and a cruise speed of 231 km/h (143.5 mph) at 60% power at 4,267 m.
