Embraer To Deliver 6 E195-E2 Jets To Low-Cost Commercial Carrier SalamAir
Embraer has signed a firm order with SalamAir, a low-cost carrier based in Muscat, Oman, to deliver six E195-E2 commercial jets from its E-Jet E2 lineup beginning late next year. The deal is valued at $934.6 million USD and includes options for another six aircraft. Embraer will deliver the jets in a dual-class 135-seat configuration. SalamAir CEO Mohamed Ahmed says the carrier will initially use the aircraft on domestic flights, but as it receives additional aircraft will use them at regional airports in neighbouring countries not currently connected to Oman.
“It is exhilarating for us to be the first airline in the Middle East to fly the incredible E195-E2,” Ahmed says. “Embraer’s aircraft represents the best environmental efficiency, operating performance, and passenger comfort. The aircraft’s sophisticated aerodynamics, novel wing design, and new technologies enable its exceptional energy efficiency.”
The Profit Hunter
Embraer claims the E195-E2 (the largest model in the E-Jet E2 family) is the most efficient aircraft in its class the world over. Other E-Jet E2 models include the E175-E2 and E190-E2. Compared to the previous-generation E-Jet, E-Jet E2 aircraft (aka the “Profit Hunters”) deliver 25.4% enhanced fuel efficiency per seat, 16% lower overall fuel consumption, and 65% less noise, Embraer says. The manufacturer also says they burn as much as 10% less fuel than competitors’ offerings.
In addition to other aerodynamic improvements, the E195-E2 features high-aspect ratio wings and swept tips. Typical configurations include 132- and 146-seat single-class options and a three-class configuration with 120 seats. The jet’s maximum range is 2,600 nautical miles (4,815 kilometres) and its maximum cruise speed is Mach 0.82.
