Robinson Through The Years

Based at the Torrance Municipal Airport – Zamperini Field in Torrance, California, Robinson Helicopter Company delivered its first helicopter, the R22, in 1979. The company’s current lineup of helicopter models includes versions of the piston-powered, two-seat R22 and the four-seat, piston-powered R44, first released in 1993. In 2010, Robinson Helicopter Company debuted the five-seat turbine-powered R66, which is now available in a R66 Turbine Marine version as well as turnkey Newscopter and Police Helicopter configurations.

In 2019, Robinson opened a dedicated, 3,437-square-metre (37,000-square-foot) overhaul and repair facility. In April 2021, the manufacturer delivered its 13,000th helicopter, an R44 featuring a new paint scheme.

The company reported 1 million flight hours for its R66 Turbine fleet in autumn 2019, and it delivered R66 serial number 1000 in summer 2020. Powered by a Rolls-Royce RR300 turboshaft engine, the R66 includes a 136-kilogram (300-pound)-capacity baggage compartment. The two-seat R44 Cadet is designed for use in flight schools and for operators seeking a smaller, economy-focused helicopter that provides the power and performance of a larger helicopter.
